I like that.
May be <b>Kerberos</b> (to sound more greek --correct me if I'm wrong--, and I like the initial K)?
<b>Kerbera</b> (to keep the final "a" from Mozilla)?

Or perhaps something from the roman <i>lupa</i>, who took care of orphans ;) ...

Haggle with the MO FO and get them to throw us this bone:

"ThunderFox"

This name conveys power, garners attention, thinks quick, and, for the poseurs and wannabees that need this, is cute (Foxy?) ALSO it carries and continues the heratage, both by name and as a tribute to the T-Rex "Thunder Lizard", the original Mozilla!

(See my post at the Moz wiki regarding the "Thunderfox Shell" - an interem idea?)

Scarrow,

I would follow your rules; however, moderators are locking all other name discussions and telling us to discuss it here. Therefore, I'm going to provide some commentary. I think it is important that whatever name is chosen it bring about a optimistic, friendly and professional feel to it. I think we should stay away from names that are too cute or too cool.

Here are some names and slogans I thought would be appropriate:

I couldn't come up with slogans for these two:

  • Voyager - "?" It still sounds cool.
  • Mariner - "?" Touches back on the Netscape heritage a bit.

These are complete, but maybe they can be improved upon:
  • XI Suite "The Cross-platform Internet Suite"
  • Netnizer "Organizes your internet"
  • Uniter "All your internet needs in one place"
  • NetWorker Professional "Works for you."
  • Edsel "We don't care if you don't like it. We're going to produce it anyway." This is a joke and crack at how MoFo seemingly named so many of their products after cars. Here is to hoping everyone that read this one has a sense of humor.

I started to make a list of car names to go with that angle, I think some of the car names are great, but most are probably best used for a browser only. Oh well, just putting this stuff out here perhaps it will inspire someone to come up with a great new name and slogan for the suite.

You may have trouble with "Spider". Webspider was an HTML authoring app from Netmanage back in the 90s, Websurfer being their web browser.

Voyager is the premier web browser for the Amiga, so that's out.

You can't call it Gecko or Mozilla. I wish people would stop suggesting them as a way of vocing their discontent, which isn't what this thread is for.

Navigator Millenium or Navigator Millenium Suite

My first choice would be Navigator Millenium because it has a well known history and identifiable about what the
product is, anyone familiar with the product knows its a "Suite",
so no need to include it in the name, on the Home page it could
explained that the product is a suite of internet applications.
(My 2 pennies worth)

Please no "Millenium" names. It's over-used and sounds bad these days. :(

And when people say Millenium, they mean the year 2000, while the new millenium actually started in 2001...

I agree the Millenium name is over used, I mentioned
that last night in a post I made, I do like it again its
overused tho - 2005 is in the new millenium so to speak.

I like Navigator InterSuite & Navigator Web Suite too.
We all know, no matter what its name ends up being,
not every will like/agree with it. Maybe choose 3-5
names with a poll on Wiki.Mozilla.org , then involve the
new and current users in a marketing campaign.

"Help Us name our New Internet Suite"? This could serve
2 purposes, one to help decide on a perm name, and two,
to draw attention and put ourselves in the spot light so to
speak for new users and current users alike as a marketing
campaign launch, that involves the users to make them
feel like they are part of the community as a whole.

I like the hydra idea, but hydra has a rather negative reputation. As I thought about the mutiple head idea, it occured to me that another way to see it is as multiple faces. This led to multifaceted, which led to gemstones. Perhaps something like diamond or topaz?

People, <strong>if you know a name is already taken by another piece of software, then please don't suggest it.</strong>
That's unequivocally pointless.

Like "<a href="http://web.mit.edu/kerberos/www/">Kerberos</a>".

<strong>And let's stay away from all other Mozilla product naming conventions and combinations thereof.</strong>
I'm highly sceptical that "ThunderFox" wouldn't generate some uproar from the Mozilla.org.

And please no links.
If it's not immediately attributable to yourself, I'm not adding it. Stick to your own suggestions.
I don't want to be running all over the web harvesting names.

L Squared.
Are you making a suggestion? If so please go:

Name - Concise blurb/justification.

In order to allow me to avoid having to sift too much of the proverbial chaff from the wheat.

As I recommended here...

Noone has done this yet, but different from animal-like or Mozilla-related names, I recommend Turkish word ana (pronounced /un-ah/) for the new application. (Ana as brand name with capital a.) This is the word I've been using to distinguish Firefox, Thunderbird and the main application, Mozilla Suite, who gave birth to Firefox and Thunderbird. Ana means mother (who gives birth), base, main, origin, core, essential. I think Ana is able to reflect what lies behind Mozilla Suite. It is also easy to remember.
