Part 2 - how can I manually transfer my bookmarks, etc. from my WinDoze machine to my Linux machine?

Bookmarks and history are stored in a file in your profile called places.sqlite. Just copy that to the profile in your new machine.

raj, does that work going from a Windows to a Linux system?

Would using Manage Bookmarks, Tools, Export HTML then Import HTML on Linux work.

I think it should work, places.sqlite is a binary database file. The format shouldn't change between Windows and Linux (unless anyone knows better?).

Would using Manage Bookmarks, Tools, Export HTML then Import HTML on Linux work.

The Export/Import route should also definitely work.

Just checking...
So these instructions to re-sync won't work with SeaMonkey? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ho ... refox-sync
-------------------
How to update to the new Firefox Sync

The latest Firefox includes a new version of Sync. This article will show you how to update. Don't want to update right away? No problem. Sync will continue to work as before for now, with one exception that we'll explain.
Table of Contents

What's different about the new Sync?
How to update to the new Sync
Step 1: Unlink all of your devices from the old Sync
Step 2: Update all of your other devices to the latest Firefox
Step 3: Create a Firefox account
Step 4: Sign in to Sync on your other devices

While the old version of Sync will continue to work, the latest version of Firefox doesn't support adding new devices to the old version of Sync. This means that you won't be able to sync with a new device.
Mozilla will continue to host the old version of Sync for a limited time to allow for migration to Firefox Accounts. Self-hosted users will soon be able to run their own instance.

I don't think they will work given that SeaMonkey doesn't support the new API yet. It's a problem that will have to be solved in SeaMonkey's Sync implementation first before it works with the changed shared code again.

As the instructions say, the old Sync interfaces are still supported for compatibility, which is why it should work with older SeaMonkey versions (but not indefinitely).

OK, thanks for the info.

Hanging in, hoping for a quick fix... I really depend on this feature!

I need to keep 4 machines synced...

Is there a way to do a sync using a USB key - not just bookmarks, but everything normally done with Sync?

If now, is there a way to do a sync of just bookmarks without overwriting the existing file, but syncing it, on the "TO" machine?

If there is existing software (either the old sync or new sync), maybe it could be easily modified to substitute the USB key for the online server, to do the same functions without the server problems?

All / any of the above has to work on BOTH Windoze AND Linux (Ubuntu) systems!
