lost images on update

Post by johnepler »

I finally updated from SeaMonky 1.whatever to the latest version of SeaMonkey - which I have used for many years. When I updated my main page, several of the images are no longer being displayed. Nothing has changed except my update to the latest SeaMonkey. HELP!

Thanks for the response - I'm sure it's something simple I can't figure out

For me it's saying those image cannot be displayed because it contains errors...

1) If you open them locally in SeaMonkey do they display then?
2) If not, can you just re-save those images and re-upload them? Does it work then?

Dicthan1.jpg & JHE.jpg are not images (AFAICT).
(email.gif, likewise.)

What I got when I downloaded them was (html, something along the lines of):
Sorry, the page you were looking for could not be found.
Suggested Actions

Check the URL that you have typed and retry.

Suspect that with SeaMonkey 1, at some point, the images were there, & were cached on your end, & every time you loaded the page, you loaded from cache & so the images displayed (for you)?

They ARE images; nothing changed; the images ARE on the web server. I tried deleting the images and then re-inserting them - no luck. What's queer is that one of the images <me.jpg> stayed on the page and displays. I can see Dicthan1.jpg and email.gif in Composer, but they do not show on the web. JHE.jpg does not display in Composer or on the web.

I reiterate that I have deleted and re-inserted these images, but nothing changed.

I am NO web-meister, but this site has worked for years until I upgraded to 2.33.1 ... thus I'm baffled and turned to this forum. ](*,)

Thank you for your response!

And, YES, I DID name a midge for the Grateful Dead many years ago. Nobody really cares, but I/it have been featured in several magazine articles over the years :D

If you remember which SeaMonkey 1.x version it was, and if I can get it running, I'm willing to test it (on Linux) to see if your site still works there.

What I meant by open locally was open a SeaMonkey browser window and drag your local copy of the image into it and see if it displays.

EDIT
@johnepler: Please try to right-click > View Image on one of the broken images, then right-click > Save Image As... , then open that resulting file in a text editor.

Looks like the old version was 1.18.

I tried opening the file index.html in the SeaMonkey browser and all images displayed and gifs were animated. I dragged JHE.jpg and Dicthan1.jpg into a SeaMonkey browser window and they both displayed.

Right-clicking on a "broken image" while in Composer (actually just a blank frame) did not bring up a dialog box with a "save as" option ...

Image

Old, new SeaMonkey, makes no difference.

> They ARE images; nothing changed; the images ARE on the web server.

I have no doubt they are images.
I do doubt that they're actually on the server, or if they are, there is something wrong in that respect - stored in a different directory, other then where they should be, or something like that.

Code: Select all

<a     href="file:///Users/elmo/Documents/Elmo/Comcast%20Web%20Site/JHE.jpg"><img
        alt="JHE" src="JHE.jpg" style="border: 0px solid ; width: 375px;
        height: 280px;"></a>

Don't really know how that stuff is to work, but file:///... is local to you. The src=, while it points to a location on the web, on your webpage does not appear to be there. Perhaps if the href= pointed to the web instead of local...?

They ARE on the server - but I reloaded them just to be sure (I'm pretty sure I did this before). This time when I replaced the files on the server, I deleted the "old" ones first (before I just did a "replace" action), and then re-uploaded the files - and - voila! Now everything's just fine.

Many thanks!!

Working now :-).

Probably just a bug.
(Just a bug he says!)
Probably a water bug ;-).

(All this talk of bugs made me remember Creepy Crawlers.)
