XMPP in SeaMonkey?

Post by isaacschemm »

Has anyone ever added an XMPP client to SeaMonkey via an extension?
I know Thunderbird has XMPP support but I don't think SeaMonkey's picked that up (yet).

I believe Thunderbird gained XMPP via incorporating the Instantbird chat client. Not sure if the standalone is really still maintained, but you can download it here: http://www.instantbird.com/

If you are looking for something that is compatible with Facebook chat, forget it. Facebook switched over to a proprietary protocol awhile back, and finally recently completely shut down the XMPP protocol.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Unless chatzilla picks up the XMPP protocol, I doubt that it will be supported in SeaMonkey as a native component.

Thanks. I don't need Facebook, just to connect to a local network XMPP server. I don't leave IRC open though, so I may as well run Instantbird or Pidgin in my system tray.
