Hi - I have to use SM on an XP laptop. I have 2.46 installed. For some reason, when I type stuff or click on a command (Send, Delete, etc), there's 2-3 sec latency. (nothing else running on the machine, no virus, etc).

So when I type, I see nothing, and then a burst of letters, and if I click on Delete, or Send, it responds 2-3 seconds later.

I'm -not- saying I expect SM to support XP. I'm not. I'm wondering if there's a solution to my problem, either adjusting a parameter, or using an older release.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Do you see the same latency in Safe Mode?
What about in a new, clean profile?

I just installed this recently on this machine. So no extensions or add-ons past the default, and started with a new profile. problem occurred immediately. I'm just wondering if an older version might be more XP compatible...

I'd say it's unlikely, but who knows. 2.40 is available here if you'd like to try it - https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.40/win32/

I'd probably have to go back further than that - but thanks

Check (Windows) Task Manager.
Anything eating CPU, in general?

Antivirus or similar interfering?
Restart computer in Safe Mode with Networking (which may cause A/V or similar to be disabled?).

nope - mostly IDLE - it's a latency issue primarily

Whatever else it is, it's not XP, I reckon.

I have SM 2.46 on XP and it flies along. I doubt going back a SM version would help either, that's a pretty big hang you're getting. Something is using resources somewhere.

What's the hardware spec. 2.46 might use more memory out of the box and this might have tipped it? Or a website which adapts to new features in 2.46. Overall XP still works fine for me on a really old dual Xeon system from 2004.

I'm running just mail - and it was a hefty machine in it's day (4GB, etc). I need to look at what else is running. shouldn't be anything, but...

Turns out some financial programs my wife had put on the laptop when she used it a while back caused the problem. Some uninstalls and disabled services fixed it. Thanks everyone.
