The seamonkey directory lists : chrome, components, defauts, dictionaries extensions, icons, isp and searchplugins
But seamonkey is not so-called "installed"..
Under the root, I see a file named "application.ini" do I have to click on it ? of course there a numerous other files

You can download SeaMonkey for Linux (like you did) or you can install it from repository and then it will be automatically updated:

I tested this on Linux Mint 18.2 "Sonya" Cinnamon (based on Ubuntu) and it works (it will install latest 2.48 version). I just don't know how to set it as default browser (i.e. to stop notification at start "do you want to make SeaMonkey default browser" or something like this).

It appears you have the 32-bit version when you have 64-bit Linux. So if you were to try and run the ./seamonkey .sh it would not work.

There is a 64-bit version for Linux (en-US only) at https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/#contrib though you can install a language pack if you prefer the ui in another language.

You could also use the 64-bit build of SeaMonkey 2.48 from https://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntu ... lla-build/ as Ubuntu stopped providing SeaMonkey packages since April 2012.

Move the seamonkey-2.48.tar.bz2 file to a location where you want to install it. The recommended location is /opt.
I have a folder in Home called Apps, where I have another folder named seamonkey, where I moved the file.

Right click on the seamonkey-2.48.tar.bz2 file and select Extract Here. SeaMonkey will be installed.
My path to SeaMonkey is ~/Apps/seamonkey/seamonkey

Enter the installation folder and find the seamonkey file, right click on it and select Run.
Once it opens Lock it to the launcher, and then you can just click the SeaMonkey icon in the launcher to run it from that point on.
