The End -23 (not sure why splits keep failing)

OSU is not part of my meager technical knowledge. Does that include a forum?

OSU is short for Oregon State University.

http://www.mozillazine.org/about/
MozillaZine is hosted at the Open Source Lab at Oregon State University.

The difference will be that Kerz has a relationship with the school. If he leaves the forums, no one else has the same relationship and they will have no reason to continue to host the forums.

Was that a real requirement or just a plus? While http://osuosl.org/services/hosting/policy/ states "OSUOSL reserves the right to disable accounts, disconnect systems and/or discontinue hosting for any reason at any time." it doesn't appear to state that its hosting open source projects just for students/alumni. It appears to talk about providing hosting services for the Open Source Community, and states:

"We decide on hosting requests by looking at many factors. One of the main things we look for in a project/site is that it shows a current or potential significant positive impact to the open source community. This is, of course, highly subjective, but we will do our best to look at all incoming hosting requests on an individual basis to decide if we think this condition is met. For development-based projects we also feel that it is important to have an active development community, which is usually characterized by both the number of developers and the frequency of code updates and/or releases. For community-based projects, an active, helpful user community is important".

http://osuosl.org/donate/faq/#what-proj ... ou-support states: "What projects do you support? The OSUOSL supports a large number of growing, high-impact open source communities. This includes the Apache Software Foundation, the Linux Foundation, Drupal, and many others." A full list of supported projects is at http://osuosl.org/communities/

That sounds promising in so far as it goes. Has there been any indication that Kerz is willing to help another person(s) to take over MozillaZine? And as I said before, there were, it appears three individuals in total involved in this: Chris Nelson, Jason Kersey and Alex Bishop. Does anyone have any contact info for the other two?

I would imagine Kerz is it as he has maintained the forum and upgraded the hardware over the years pretty much on his own.
Got to be ten years or more since Alex put in an appearance (12 years actually) and I have never seen Chris on the forum at all. I think he handed the reigns over and exited stage left right at the beginning

@ kerz - Thank you very much for keeping running this forum for so long! =D>
I'm still hoping that you will allow someone to take over this forum in unchanged form,
as there's no any real replacement for this kind of historic information.

If it is at a college, maybe some students can keep things running as a "project". I'd imagine in the world of VM's, that hardware is no longer an issue; just host the VM somewhere. The students can keep the forum software up to date, etc.

What! No more mozillaZine forums? Oh, no!

Reddit is utter rubbish. Need a proper forum, just like. Just like this one! Surely there must be a way of keeping mozillaZine Forums going.

We already like this one. I'm being forced to use Reddit for Waterfox, and the site is a labyrinth, enough to send me back to Firefox. But without mozillazine...

I was going to ask if this forum software would run on a "regular PC", thinking I could find something to run it on, and put it on a decent network. Then I thought about it, and in this age of virtual machines and hosted sites, there must be somebody, somewhere, that can host a simple forum server. This is not rocket science, folks. In my opinion, it was more than a little "over moderated" anyhow. I think a more free flowing stream of ideas would not be a bad thing.
