"Dynamic" quoting extension/feature request

Post by villepyry »

I get a lot of mail from people who write their replies above my quoted e-mail and a little bit more mail from people that prefer to write their replies after the quoted text (as do I). Now, I'm a nice guy and I also like my e-mail threads to consistently have the answering part above or below the quoted text and therefore I often manually have to scroll up to the beginning of the message.

Thunderbird would be that little bit more intuitive if it would simply try to check if the message's quote structure is ascending or descending and act accordingly. If I would write the first reply, then of course TB would follow my set preference. If the structure would be ambigious then TB should probably default to replying above the quoted text (as in Outlook et al.).

Ideas about this? Anyone?

You can change the cursor position the following way:
Tools/account settings/composition & addressing/composition/ at "automatically quote the original message when replying" select "state my reply above the quote.
