No autoscroll in compose message or received message windows

Post by uncoolcentral »

Autoscroll (click or hold middle mousewheel button, then move mouse up or down to scroll) works fine in the message pane of the inbox and it even works well when a message is opened in its own tab, but compose a new message in a new "write" window or read an individual message in its own window and autoscroll doesn't work.

Is there any way to enable autoscrolling in these new windows?

To be clear, regular old middle mouse wheel scrolling (scroll the wheel over and over again) works find in these new windows, but depressing the middle mouse button does not bring up the icon (http://ifelse.co.uk/images/ff_autoscroll_icon.png) and it surely doesn't bring the functionality.

Hook a brother up?

Thanks!

Ah, what the hell.
Bump.
It's a feature request.
...seems like it'd be easy-ish for the right person, and it just makes sense.

Most of the developers don't visit this forum. You could file a bug report at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ and set the priority to feature request but your best bet might be to find a related bug report that somebody is assigned to, and raise the issue there. They might ask you to split that request to a separate bug report (if only for tracking purposes), but at least this way you'll have gotten somebodies attention who is working on something related.

The tb planning mailing list is discussing the possibility of making another attempt at replacing the built-in editor using either a google summer of code project or as a project for a team of 4-6 students at Victoria University of Wellington during their academic year (March-October). The last attempt failed mainly because they chose the wrong HTML widget, it was a popular and useful HTML widget but it turned out to be too hard to integrate its settings with the rest of Thunderbird.

Thanks for the info. I'll do the bugzilla report soon. Haven't bugged them in a while, anyhow ;)
