Selection of Print

I have 2 selections for print; 1- a multi-function printer & 2 a program which reprocesses the print to make it smaller & print a folded single page as 4 on 1 letter sheet. It then passes the compressed print to real printer (1). I would like to have 1 be the default, but sometimes it turns up with 2 as the default even when 1 was the last used (actually 1 is always the the last used).
