one unified seach box

it would be great, if Thunderbird, would offer one unified search box. Currently there are 2 different seach boxes, which sometimes is a little bit confusing.

One is a filter box and one is a global search box. It's doubtful this will change.

ok then maybe offer an option, so the user can decide by himself? Would this be possible?

Probably, but because those fields can be displayed or hidden at the user's option, I don't see it as something the developers are likely to spend time on changing to a combined function.
