Tabbed Search
Is there a way to get the search function to open up in its own tab?

Re: Tabbed Search
Local Folders>Search Messages, or Edit>Find>Search Messages. How many search functions are there?

Re: Tabbed Search
OK, those are actually the same functionality accessed through two different paths. In addition there is Global Search and Quick Filter (called a search by some users).
As far as I know, there is no tabbed functionality for those search methods.

Yes, you've got it now. That's how I understood it.
However, that still leaves the original question about how it can be opened in a tab instead of a window. There must be a setting somewhere.

Re: Tabbed Search
No, not really. You can open the account page (Email, Accounts, Advanced Features) in a new tab but as soon as you click on the "Search messages" link it opens in a separate window. I can find nothing in config settings that would change that action.
On the other hand, the Global Search function (Ctrl+K) does launch in a tab on the main Thunderbird window. That is not, however, a tear off tab nor can it be opened from that tab into a separate window.

Re: Tabbed Search
Well, thanks for that. It is sad that the tab issue has not been fixed yet for this, along with a tabbed editor (and a better editor at that).
BTW, the button bar has a search blank/feature, and that causes the cursor to jump there with Ctrl-K, but no extra tab opens for me on:
Name Thunderbird
Version 78.10.0
Build ID 20210415215055
Distribution ID
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/78.10.0
OS Linux 4.19.0-16-amd64
Thanks again.

Make sure that you have Global Search set on under menu path Edit->Preferences->Advanced->General->Enable Global Search & Indexer.BTW, the button bar has a search blank/feature, and that causes the cursor to jump there with Ctrl-K, but no extra tab opens for me

My choices are:
Edit>Preferences>General or Composition or Privacy & Security or Chat or Calendar. No Advanced.

Re: Tabbed Search
My mistake, I thought you were running Linux.
Try Tools->Options and work from there.

Re: Tabbed Search
Okay, got it, and it is already checked.
It looks like the best I can do is Edit>Find>Global Search, for now.
Thanks.

Re: Tabbed Search
Does Ctrl+K work if you launch the program in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Re: Tabbed Search
No. The cursor just jumps to the search field on the tool bar.
