There are several problems I have noticed with deletion of email. BTW, I use IMAP:
1. If you select to move email to Trash upon deletion and you empty the Trash, the email doesn't go away. This takes up server space and the server provider might get mad at you. See here.
2. If you select to mark the email as deleted upon clicking Delete and you click Delete an email while viewing it in the message window (not message preview), the message window doesn't automatically go to the next email, but instead you have to press the F key or click next.
3. There needs to be a Purge/Compact button. Vote for 75927 or 86161! A Purge/Compact button is important because it is necessary if you choose to mark the email as deleted instead of moving it to the Trash Can when you click Delete. In addition, the "Compact This Folder" is not very visible to a user and is not very clear about its function. Purge would be much better (as in Outlook Express).
4. Emails that are marked as deleted should be striked through for more emphasis (just a nag).
Sorry for the rant. If anybody knows any bug numbers or these annoyances being fixed, please reply. If you want to object to any of these perfectly logical and reasonable arguements, please also reply
