Trash folder marked as read permanently

I receive junk and unwanted emails and i dont even want to read them so i delete them.
Now they are sitting in Trash as unread and it's very visible that I have X unread messaged in trash, which i dont like to see since i dont care about those unread junk-emails.
Is there any way I could have my Trash folder marked as read permanently, regardless if there are unread messages inside?

For those that are already in that folder, right click on the folder name in the left hand pane and select "Mark Folder Read".
For new messages, be sure that you have set Thunderbird to mark messages identified as Junk as already Read. Find this under Tools->Options->Privacy->Junk -- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls

I really would like to have this feature too.
Messages in the trash (not junk!) should not appear as still unread.
I guess the original poster meant the same.
No matter how messages get into the trash, neither by hand nor by rule, I do not want them to show in the unread count of my imap account.
