Since our Thunderbird is version 102.5.x, we have been experiencing a "slow/frozen processing" failure in all Thunderbirds.
New mail arrives, click on the notification that appears in the lower right corner of Windows. Then Thunderbird will not accept any action. Other applications also become slightly sluggish. This also occurs in received mail when switching mail.
It is occurring in both IMAP4 and POP3 and on different mail servers. It also occurs in safe mode, although less frequently.
This occurs regardless of the amount of mail remaining on the mail server.

Attempts to optimize and repair folders do not improve.
I am using Thunderbird on Windows in several different environments and it is happening in all of them.
Is there a workaround for this failure?

Moving to Thunderbird Support as no specific bug has yet been identified here.

Are you referring to a single, central Thunderbird profile used by multiple users or does each user have a local profile on their computer?
You might try temporarily switching off Global Search and Indexing to see if a corrupted index file is causing issues. You can disable this feature using Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Enable Global Search and Indexer. If you do that exit Thunderbird and delete the global-messages-db.sqlite and global-messages-db.journal files in the profile. Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> "Open Containing Folder" will display the profile directory using Windows Explorer (or your file manager).

We create a Thunderbird profile for each user's PC. Global search is enabled for only a very few, but disabled for the majority.
Deleting global-messages-db.sqlite does not seem to improve things.
*We are all using 102.6.1 now.

You might want to experiment with temporarily using only IMAP accounts (more robust than POP) in safe mode and downgrade one of your installations to a slightly older version (such as 102.4.2) to see if it makes a big difference.

It may be useful for us to know the exact release where this started - 102.5.0 or 102.5.1.

Regardless, and not to contradict other comments), there are no new confirmed performance related bug reports in this area since 102.5.0 shipped - except perhaps https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1806325 (which IMO is likely a user issue) from https://mzl.la/3FTBjiD

You mention "It also occurs in [Windows] safe mode, although less frequently." Can you be more specific - 50% less in frequency? And what software are you running that would likely be the caues of that?
