sort of off topic, about 32bit - your hardware restricts you to running Catalina as 32bit?

Thanks belatedly for that information. However, I've tested Thunderbird versions under Mojave and Catalina, both with the same results:

TB 60.9.1 - Works fine - is able to access the the test user profile on the NAS server and emails can be sent and received.
TB 68.9.0 - No error on load - simply presents a blank TB window, no account listed in the left hand pane, no email displayed.
TB 78.9.0 - Exactly the same as for version 68.9.0 - see above.

Screen grabs can be provided, if that would be of help.

All the Mac operating systems that I am running are 64-bit (Snow Leopard onwards). Thunderbird as far as I am aware is a 64-bit only application for Mac.
Accessing Thunderbird profiles stored on a local server affects any version of Thunderbird for macOS after version 60.9.1 is not possible. That is the issue which has nothing to do with hardware and remains unresolved.
