I am using Thunderbird on a Fedora machine. My desktop manager is Gnome. After the last update the version number for Thunderbird is 78.3.1
After installing Thunderbird, two items were added to the Gnome application menu:
'Thunderbird' and 'Thunderbird on Wayland'.
The normal way to use 'Search' is by selecting Edit => Search and than a submenu should display.
When using 'Thunderbird', the submenu displays as usual..
When using 'Thunderbird on Wayland' (which is my default) the submenu is not displayed.

Okay I booted into a Fedora 32 Live Workstation with the Gnome desktop.
I would say the problem lies with Fedora and a bug report should be filed with them.
- I installed the Fedora Thunderbird 78.3.1 build and only saw one choice in the Applications menu and that was Thunderbird.
Started the application and created an email account.
Noticed that the Search <Ctrl+K> bar was missing from the Mail Toolbar and did not find it in Customize.
Used the key combination and a useless window appeared.
Selected Edit > Find > Search Messages which uses the <Ctrl+Shift+F> key combination.
That brought up the Search Messages dialog which I was able to use to find messages.
The Quick Search <Ctrl+Shift+K> also worked.
I would say the problem lies with Fedora and a bug report should be filed with them.

Re: Search dropdown does not work on Wayland (Linux)
In the meantime I am using Linux 5.10.11-200.fc33.x86_64 and Thunderbird 78.7.0 on my Lenovo t470s.
I noticed that when using Thunderbird on Wayland I can only select functionality that is visible in the first layer of the main menu. For functionality that should be accessible when selecting subemnu' s, I have to use shortcut-keys.
When using Thunderbird everything works without problems.
I didn' t get any reply on my cross-post to bugzilla so I guess that buzilla considers this to be a Thunderbird problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to find the cause of this problem?
Ben
