hi all

i need to find a way to access the same mailbox in read-only from several clients, + from a "manager" that has full control (read-write) over the the mailbox. i tried several ways, and so far imap shared folders seem to be the best solution.

however, when setting up shared folders, thunderbird doesn't notify the user when a new mail is in one of the shared folder.

after some time experiencing with thunderbird, i saw that there are some cases where thunderbird shows the new mails automatically:
- running mutt (whose notification with shared-folders works) makes thunderbird show the new mails automatically
- clicking on the shared folder seems to do a "refresh" and then shows new mails

it doesn't seem to be a problem related to the maildir format (i use courier imap) since manualy moving and renaming the new mails from news/ to cur/ with the right flags doesn't help

i tried to add user_pref("mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new", true); to prefs.js, but it doesn't work. i saw some more or less related topics but they weren't helpful too.

with courier imap, i experimented with IMAP_CHECK_ALL_FOLDERS=1 and some other options; also played with FAM, but it didn't help; i also tried to check/uncheck the IDLE and subscribe options, stiil without success

as mutt works, and since i need to click on the (sub) shared folder to see new mails, i think that this is more a thunderbird problem...

any clue ?
thanks !
ivan

actually, the user_pref("mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new", true); "trick" works ; i messed up my profiles, and wrote that line at the wrong place ; btw, that's strange because after deleting the .thunderbird folder and recreating the profile (lots of times), i'm now with ~/.thunderbird/default.vlq/ , with no randomstring (ie. all files are in default.vlq).

anyway, it works, and that's great; i also found another way while playing with shared subfolders properties : checking "check this folder for new mail" really does what it says, so no need to edit prefs.js :)

the only thing i have to find out now is why courier imap sends new mail notifications (via IDLE ?) _only_ when there are concurrent mail clients checking the same folder (with IMAP_ENHANCEDIDLE=1, using FAM). with a single client, it doesn't work.
