XP Pro, IE6 All updates updated
I even tried rebooting in case something was wrong
466 celeron w/ 256mb ram
I hope it doesn't need huge amounts of ram.. I don't get this
It hangs with 'Resolving host www.mozilla.org' in the status bar

If you have bookmarks that point to local folder (and files?) in your IE favorites, then FB does that when it tries to import them. This might not be your problem, but it’s the first thing that came to mind. The solution is to add this line:
into prefs.js located in your profile folder.
Give that a try and if it doesn’t work, then we can find another solution.
Code: Select all
user_pref("browser.bookmarks.added_static_root", true);
Give that a try and if it doesn’t work, then we can find another solution.

there isn't any prefs.js anywhere on my computer...
I inserted the line at the end of /defaults/pref/all.js
and It got all the way to 'Transferring data from www.mozilla.org' before hanging..
remember I'm on xp, running mozilla out of a folder on my desktop
