I'm currently using Firefox and Thunderbird on a PC running Windows 98SE, and am purchasing a new system running Windows XP-Media Center, and was wondering if someone had some tips for how I could migrate my settings (i.e. bookmarks, address book, e-mail) to the newer system?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

For Firefox bookmarks: Go to the Bookmarks, Manage Bookmarks. Then click on File, Export, and following the instructions to save the bookmarks to a removable recording device. Then go to your new PC, and Import the saved bookmarks. As for other settings and extensions, you would have to go to the Mozilla Firefox folder under Program Files (in most cases), and copy the Profile and Extensions folders to a removable recording device. Then copy them to the new Mozilla Firefox folder.

As for Thunderbird, I am not sure how to export your saved mail, or settings. I was not successful doing that when I re-formatted my Hard Drive recently. I saved my mail and settings, but could not figure out how to import once my system was restored. Sorry. Maybe someone else will have an answer.

Hope this helps.

One thing I forgot on the Thunderbird migration. You can and should save your address book. To do so, click on the Address Book, Tools, Export, and save the LDIF file and call it Address Book.ldif on a removable recording device. Then Import in on your new PC the same way. That was the only thing that I did do for Thunderbird. Good Luck.

Darryl,

The links I gave cover all of that. They are all stored in the respective profiles.

Hi, I am doing the same thing and need to move my Outlook email history files to Thunderbird. Is that possible? If it is, how do I do it. I can move any files off my old computer through a 80g sharable external hard drive very fast.

Is Thunderbird compatible with outlook files?
