A Composer Name...

Composer, ChatZilla and other Mozilla applications, along with Netscape, Galeon, K-Meleon and other products.

A Composer Name...

What do you think of Snowbird as a name for the future Composer?

Snowbird sounds good. However, I still have some gripes about all these "bird" names. They don't tell you what these applications do (Snowbird doesn't tell you that the application is a WYSIWYG webpage editor). Although I am used to these bird names now, I think that just leaving the name as "Mozilla Composer" for a standalone version may be best. The only reason I can think of for changing the name to "Mozilla Snowbird" is for consistency with the other Mozilla birds (Firebird, Thunderbird, Sunbird, etc).

But still if for some reason they decide to change the name of Composer to a "bird" name, Snowbird sounds good.

Plus, the Snowbird picture logo thingy looks really, really good.

Snowbird would only be the project name similar to Firebird and Thunderbird...
Soon, Firebird will be renamed Mozilla Browser and Thunderbird will be Mozilla Mail...
The Composer would only be Snowbird for a short time, before it's called Mozilla Editor...
Snowbird would basically serve as a project name...

What do you think of "The HTML editor that can't do a simple definition list"?

<G>

Yeah, I guess that is a bit too long.

The project names were chosen because they were car names, not bird names.

Since snowbird isn't a type of car (that I've ever heard of, anyway) I don't think it is a good name for the project.

It would be better to go with Ferrari or something like that than Snowbird. The birdness is secondary to the carness.

More people know about the Birdness then the Carness...
I prefer to go along with the carness...
However, if you ensist, we could always call it Bluebird...
Snowbird is much better though...

Really? There was a car called the Bluebird? That's kind of funny, who made it?

I actually kind of think Bluebird is more fitting for composer. It's a kind of a nice helpful friend on the side type of name, which is how I see composer. It's not a major application that is the reason for the web or the Internet, as Firebird and Thunderbird are. It's a means to an end, not an end itself.

Ignoring the whole car/bird thing, I could picture Snowbird being something more along the lines of a rss feed aggrigator.

To reflect its means to an end nature, perhaps the composer could be called something mechanical, such as a tool or part of an engine? It would create a pretty consistent analogy. I wish I could think of a snazzy named car part related to steering :)

Oh, and I appreciate the initiative you took to try to name this sucker. I don't mean to downplay that with my criticism.

thunderbird is already blue though, so blue bird might not be the best choice. maybe greenbird :)

A composer name?

Post by fedetxf »

I suggest Mozart. It's a composer after all.
Is this *bird naming pattern a Mozilla guideline or a project by project thing?
If it is the latter, I'd go with some composer name: Mozart.
