Lightning, Lightbird, SeaMonkey, Thunderbird...
Can someone please set me straight about these animals, in terms of what they do?
At the end of the day I would simply like a calendar app (like Sunbird) and really don't need
any other functions.
Would any of the above provide that?
If not, which would have the smallest footprint?
TIA

Re: Lightning, Lightbird, SeaMonkey, Thunderbird...
Sunbird is Lightning, just a spin off. Lightbird is an extension (outdated and no longer works) that put a calendar icon on the bottom of Seamonkey next to the current batch (Mail newsgroups, Composer, Address book, and IRC Chat). Sunbird has not been in development for ages. Lightning is constantly updated to work with the latest release of SeaMonkey.MozillaMonkey wrote:Can someone please set me straight about these animals, in terms of what they do?

Standalone spinoffs from Netscape Communicator, aka Mozilla Suite, aka SeaMonkey include Sunbird (the calendar), Kompozer (the composer), and others less well known.

Moving to MozillaZine Tech as this is not a SeaMonkey Support question.

For Windows 10 try Get One Calendar, or do a web search for a standalone calendar.
Linux Desktop - AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 455 3.3GHz | 8.0GB RAM | GeForce GT 630
Windows Notebook - AMD A8 7410 2.2GHz | 6.0GB RAM | AMD Radeon R5

Thanks Walt.WaltS48 wrote:For Windows 10 try Get One Calendar, or do a web search for a standalone calendar.
One-Calendar appears to be a calendar integrator (Google, Microsoft etc.).
And it appears to be an online Calendar.
I am looking for a standalone, offline calendar app.
I did a search for one many times but haven't found any that look and perform like
Sunbird does.

If you want standalone, the only one I know of is the original Sunbird. You can find it here as a portable app.

Thanks ndebord.
I currently am using v. 1.0b2.
The link you gave leads to 1.0b1 Rev2.
So going by numbers I have the later version.
But curiously, the date on mine is 2010 (copyright)
and the date at the download site is 2014. Go figure.
Anyhow, so far I can't get past the installation folder during installation.
This can be installed in Win10 right?
Thanks again!

I have only installed the portable version, so can't speak to any other issues with Windows 10. As you can see I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit here. As far as I know, these 2 versions are very close together. Mine works.
Also, it is best to make a new folder called Portableapps.. install the portable version to a sub-folder there.

I should mention when I gave my version number above,
it was for the regular Sunbird version, not a portable version.
This is the error I get no matter what folder I put for installation:
"The destination folder you selected is invalid.
Please choose a valid folder."
I am totally perplexed.
-------------------
I did a search online and read that if you install to c:\
it could work. I tried it and it worked!
So the next step was to import my calendar file from my old Sunbird.
It worked....
But....
the only problem was that the appointments for some reason were all
three hours later.
So a 1:30 pm appt. imports as 4:30 pm etc. etc.
Any ideas for that one?

Check what time zone it is using.

Yes, when you install to portableapps folder, it should be:
c:\portableapps
Trying to put such inside c:\program files, etc., doesn't work.

Thanks, this is certainly the problem but I don't know how to fix it.tanstaafl wrote:Check what time zone it is using.
It's extremely confusing!
There are just too many variables!
I don't even know if I have a safe version to go back to anymore.
Variables:
1. Adjusting the Time zone.
2. Looking at the time of events on the calendar.
3. Opening individual events and seeing different times to the time showing on the calendar.
4. Opening different calendars (saved different versions).

Re: Lightning, Lightbird, SeaMonkey, Thunderbird...
For example, I created a New calendar
Then Imported a calendar.
I put the Zone to Los Angeles before importing because that was
the zone I had mistakenly on my calendar all the time.
The time for an appt. showed on the cal as 5:30 pm
(the time was supposed to show 2:30 pm)
BUT... when I hovered my mouse over the appt. or opened it, it showed the correct time! (2:30 pm).
So then I tried the following.
I created a new calendar.
I changed the Time zone to New York.
Then I imported the same file.
Now the time showing on the calendar was correct (2:30 pm)
BUT.. when I hovered my mouse over the appt. or opened it, it showed the incorrect time! (5:30 pm)

Re: Lightning, Lightbird, SeaMonkey, Thunderbird...
Not a clue... the portableapps version I talk about, is the one I use (in addition to Lightning in SeaMonkey). I am on the East Coast and I have no issues with timezone changes.
