Trouble accessing HTTPS sites in ANY browser
Running Win10 Home, version 21H1, OS build 19043.1949. Recently have problems loading HTTPS sites in ANY browser. At first thought it was a Firefox issue but the same sites won't load in Vivaldi or Edge. Have tried clearing DNS cache without success. Any suggestions for cause and cure?

OK...I get to ask you -- have you tried in Troubleshoot Mode?
Select Help > Troubleshoot Mode > Restart with addons and settings temporarily disabled
https://www.google.com/search?client=fi ... ttps+sites

I often take a long windy road to my destination. Upon arrival, I wonder how I missed the shortcut.

Have you tried re-syncing your Window's (PC's) clock? That seems to be the culprit in most cases.

This is an OS problem, not a browser issue.DanRaisch wrote:Any suggestions for cause and cure?
Suggest - Flush anything that can be flushed. Disable any anti-virus software and test. Check system time and date. Check for malware with a full scan.

Nah, the date, time and time zone are all correct.Ortho_Fan wrote:Have you tried re-syncing your Window's (PC's) clock? That seems to be the culprit in most cases.)
Except that wouldn't explain the issue with Vivaldi or Edge.OK...I get to ask you -- have you tried in Troubleshoot Mode?
Yeah, that was my thought too. Not sure exactly what was wrong but a hard reboot (not "Restart" but shut down, wait 30 seconds and then start up) seems to have resolved things...at least so far.This is an OS problem, not a browser issue.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Re: Trouble accessing HTTPS sites in ANY browser
I had a similar problem once. I got it working with the following procedure.
* issue ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew
* issue ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns
* shut down computer
* shut down cable modem
* wait a few minutes
* start cable modem
* start computer

Re: Trouble accessing HTTPS sites in ANY browser
Note that in FF, you can easily change DNS providers (which might or might not help, but easy enough to test) - by enabling, disabling, or setting specific DoH providers.
If DoH is disabled, enable & test.
If enabled, switch providers & test.
If enabled, disable & test (which falls back to whatever is defined in the OS).
(As for the problem itself, my first suspect would be your A/V inserting itself into the https: stream.
I don't know, but don't think that Windows Defender does that? But at least some 3rd. party A/V do.)
http continued to load?
Did other computers, connected on the same network/to the same ISP, have the same issue?

Re: Trouble accessing HTTPS sites in ANY browser
If you keep an ip monitor running which can record history it could be verification servers in the cloud.
I keep finding , mostly amazon based, have a tendency to block sites if advertising or some other nonsense is blocked, trackers, etc.
It's sort of like a redirect but goes no where, just keeps spinning.
Try clearing Firefox or whatever browser, clear cache, and anything else, close browser and reopen, click immediately on site which wasn't available.
I think it's something snarky amazon is doing.
Also it appears google is validating the blocking servers thinking they are adverts and trackers, in some cases the ability to identify them.
Dnslytics is a site commonly blocked by the amazon cloud servers.
