More details on the transition to Manifest V3

Post by Snake4 »

https://developer.chrome.com/blog/more-mv2-transition/

might be why Mozilla is/was gonna hold onto MV2 for longer

In January 2023, Chrome 112 will get new flags for disabling Manifest V2 in Canary, Dev, and Beta.
In June 2023, Chrome 115 will receive the same flags in the Stable Channel.

In January 2023, use of Manifest V3 will become a prerequisite for the Featured badge as we raise the security bar for extensions we highlight in the store.
In June 2023, the Chrome Web Store will no longer allow Manifest V2 items to be published with visibility set to Public. All existing Manifest V2 items with visibility set to Public at that time will have their visibility changed to Unlisted.
In January 2024, following the expiration of the Manifest V2 enterprise policy, the Chrome Web Store will remove all remaining Manifest V2 items from the store.

[....] Next year, Chrome browser extensions – such as ad blockers and other privacy tools – will stop working if they are reliant on an API called Manifest v2 (MV2).

So far, when these extensions are rewritten to work with Chrome's new Manifest v3 (MV3) API, you tend to end up with hobbled software that doesn't work as well. [....]
As always, Google is a real pos.

Hopefully, mentioned in the article both Brave and Mozilla will continue to support MV2.
Also it's only the Chrome browser and possibly some other browsers which are going to the new format.
. . . and yes it stinks. ](*,)

Google is a real pos.
The only problem there is, Mozilla (the follower, as they are), is implementing V3 too - but is also retaining V2 too (& the troubling part - with me saying - for now, at least).
Fire 750, bring back 250.

  • Unfortunately, Mozilla has been (and will continue to be ...) Google's official sucker for years. Image

Of course it does. SeaMonkey as a totally independent project, does NOT follow the nonsense of Mozilla and Google.
