Damn, I just put that on a friend's computer because it impressed me. Now I'll have to remove it.

Do. It's also now installing a Conduit toolbar... Nasty. Lots of complaints on their forums about it and not being able to remove it from Firefox. (Heads up for us...). It also seems to install even if you uncheck it's option.

I didn't get the toolbar. I consider toolbars an spawn of devil and look out for them.

BTW, IObit's reply. http://blog.iobit.com/

Littlemutt, there is not indication that the software is from China.

This news is everywhere. Steal from a good company and claim it's your own and the word will travel.

It's a rule of the internet. Put something on the internet and somebody somewhere will always steal it. Always. Rule 64 is what they call it.

Doesn't make it right. We can and MUST call them as we see them.

As to this part of their repy:
Let’s analyze the questions from Malwarebytes.

a) Don’t.Steal.Our.Software.A.. It’s a mistake that one of our analyzers used the same name submitted by the user. Key_Generator.exe is an existing malware to crack Malwarebytes products. Now we call such keygens as “Trojan.Gen”, including Keygen for IObit products.

b) Trap: dummy.exe, rogue.exe, fake.exe. It’s very ridiculous and has a wrong logic. There are hundreds of malware coming up everyday and many malware have very similar or even the same “signature code”. We did catch malware, by DOG heuristic engine, with the same “signature code” with the “made-by-malwarebytes” programs.

Maybe I can buy the explanation in point a), but point b) makes no sense at all. The traps were internal to MBAM for their own testing of the two databases and were never out in the wild. There is no way that IObit could have found those infections on their own or had them uploaded.

Wow. Just wow. Sounds like they just used the database wholesale.
