Thanks, zman. I clicked on it not really expecting to find anything out of date but...there is one that says it needs to be updated. Problem is, I don't have any idea what it even is. It's called MetaStream 3 Plugin. There is a link to click on to update it but I'd like to know what does. Anyone know? The links for the plugin go here: http://www.viewpoint.com/technologies/v ... ayer.shtml

No idea how it ended up getting installed so if anyone has any information about this...?? I don't remember ever installing something called Viewpoint Media Player but if it ever was installed it must have been removed long ago. The only thing I can think of is maybe this plugin got installed along with something else...

There are six other plugins that don't say they are Up to Date nor do they say they should be updated. They say "Research" which apparently is a google link. But looking at them I suspect they are all up to date anyway, given what they are.

Okay, after doing a little more checking, I was surprised to find out there is something called Viewpoint Media Player installed. I don't know why but it has the same icon as Windows Media Player and I can only guess that it is something that came with the computer. According to the Windows Control Panel it was last used over five years ago...

Anyway...will probably just uninstall it then.

Explanation of MetaStream 3 Plugin from therube viewtopic.php?p=2325138#p2325138

If you take a look at about:plugins, maybe you will see where it comes from.

Probably installed by Windows http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/pres ... ionpr.mspx

Thanks. Based on information found at viewpoint.com, I think it may have come with a free trial version of AOL that was included at the time this computer was new.

AOL was never used and is long gone. This (Viewpoint Media Player and the MetaStream browser plugin) may just be something that was left behind...

Hello,

interestingly enough, the Firefox Plugin Check page at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ still reports that MetaStream Plugin as "outdated" even after the newest Viewpoint Player was installed.

Why? The npviewpoint.dll that comes with the player is version 3.6.0.59. Which version is expected and where can I get it from?

Kind regards,

Gerd

Plugin Check only just launched. There will be bugs and incomplete information about the plugins. If your plugins aren't recognized or shows the wrong information, don't worry. As you get the latest plugins/plugin updates off the official plugin makers' sites, you'll be fine.

And over time Mozilla will update Plugin Check to fix bugs, add new information, and update existing information on the various plugins as the information becomes available.

If it was down, it was only temporary as it's online for me now.

Hello,

That error message was misleading in a classical way. The problem was that I had to enable scripts in NoScript for www.mozilla.org although the URL starts with www.mozilla.com.

Thus, I would suggest a more informative error message in such cases.

suggests that there is a problem with the site rather than with the user's browser settings.

Kind regards,

well, whenever I see the text "Please try your request again later", I assume that it's a server problem. In my experience there are few browser setting issues that would be cleared by simply coming back later. Browser setting problems would continue until the user made a change.

Good point. Have you made your suggestion to Mozilla yet?
