Ad Aware AE won't load. Any ideas?

Decided to upgrade to AdAware AE, so upgraded, and it won't load. Tried uninstalling, removing any 2008 entries, reinstalling, and the splash screen appears, the exe is frozen in task manager.

Note - I had recently had three Vundo trojans identified and removed by Malwarebytes. I note that Vundo will prevent AdAware from loading, but after the Vundo removals, the prior 2008 edition would run.

Any ideas, or at least a link to the prior 2008 free edition (CNET no longer offers prior editions)

Is AdAware still worth the effort?

I have Avast free resident, and have Spywareblaster, and run Spybot and Malwarebyte scans. Should that be enough?

Any opinions appreciated.
