I think they are doing a 64bit version for the new Athlons. Search CNet for it. Think I read it there.

The Windows XP 64-bit Edition has been available since Windows XP was released...
erm... this is for Itanium/IA-64, the ridicuolously expensive server processor that no one uses. It leaves out a lot of goodies that the typical desktop users will want. And yes, they are planning on making a version fo x86-64
Just in case anyone is interesting <a href="http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=amd64xp&page=1&cookie%5Ftest=1&MSCSProfile=95385A1F52DEA1A229D5B3754205446452BD3018AFC4ED4A51671EC9CEC1CC05B319C788C7C0F79EF81E825A3343749EB612E2C211E4819506241202CC12020F83570A30A59CA313354CFB8ED96B7849F80974890327830561B3B04FCD67CAC17D3F3642F2B7A952FB3B4E4E56776AA3F6D04DB164F8321393676B6CC60390E76BAF19FE6E6E7B56">here</a> about MS Windows for x86-64 (not yet released).

Thanks...

Whenever you post a one word sentence, you always should add ", bitch" to the end.

"Will do you intend to purchase a 64bit processor?"

What kind of question is that? Don't you want to know all other people's opinion and not just Will's? :)

I think almost all of us are going to get a 64 bit pc sometime but there's not going to be much point until longhorn comes out imo (not that I'll use it...)
On a slight tangent...
If I get a new (32 bit) pc in the next two months how long do you think it will be before I "have" to upgrade to 64 bit to run whatever the current games and stuff are at the time well? I'm thinking of getting an athlonxp 2600+, 512megs or a gig (have yet to figure out whether I'm going to use that much) of ram and a radeon 9800 (not sure whether pro or nonpro yet)

There are already a handful of 64-bit OS's that you can obtain free... Linux and Solaris 9 come to mind. But I have to ask myself... why would I need a 64-bit CPU? Unless the OS's get so bloated that they require a bigger address space than 4GB, I'm pretty sure the current 32-bit architecture is adequate. (I don't think an average PC user needs to have a file bigger than 2GB, either...)

When there will be 64-bit software - I will make the switch - or if the price is right.

Yeah. I won't be switching anytime soon. Only when I actually need to will I go and upgrade.
