The problem is not with the new computer (Windows 2000), but with the old one (Windows 98). I can log on to it as usual, except that a new dialog box pops up prior to letting the login finish:
Microsoft Networking
No domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be able to gain access to some network resources.
With "OK" and "Cancel" buttons at the end.
I'm just wondering - Is there any way I can keep this dialog box from popping up each time I log on to the old computer? It's a nuisance to constantly have to go through another step just to log in to the old computer...
Windows 98/2000 (Network) - "No Domain Server" Dur

That option isn't there...But I found something very close to it, and changing that option did work:
- Go to Start Menu - Control Panel - Network
- Select "Client for Microsoft Networks", select "Properties"
- Uncheck "Log on to Windows NT Domain", select "OK"
- Restart system
- Let system reboot as usual - Logon screen will be missing "Domain" field but is otherwise identical
- You can now log on without this error message popping up anymore
