Probably corrupted...
I'd recommend getting it replaced, and upgraded while you're at it...
I hear they're selling it cheap at Best Buy...

I had a Palm Vx which the kids use on trips now. I have a 501 at the moment. Useful for addresses when I don't want to boot up the laptop.

Most days of the week, I create a text file with about 50 to 100 articles which runs from 80 to 150 pages if printed out. Sometimes I print it out and sometimes I put in on the Palm. You can take any text file and create a Palm Doc out of it. It's nice if you're waiting in line at the supermarket or waiting for an order at a restaurant.

I also use it to keep track of workouts at the YMCA for weight training. I use about 20 pieces of equipment and the PDA holds my reps and weight settings for each machine.

The machine uses a 33 Mhz processor, though, and is pretty slow. Battery life, though is incredible.
