@trodas

There's no need to modify the Flash installer if you've got UURollup installed. The required API is present in the system so you can just run the Flash installer as it is.

Hi followed all of your instructions and have FireFox 17 working in W2K SP4...awesome! Am having fun with W2K...VERY QUICK on my old Pentium 4. Anyway noticed you (tomasz86) mentioned getting Office 2007 working or that it will work in W2K. I run my Office 2007 Ultimate disc but is says "Must be on XP, Vista, or higher"

Could you let me know any additional steps to take to get Office 2007 working in W2K? Also after the UURollup install am getting a ReleaseActCTX error when running a program that did not give that error before (doPDF printer driver).

Regardless great info and thanks for working on windows 2000 :)

I'm sorry for a late answer. Thank you very much for testing and I'm glad that you're happy with Firefox 17 running well in Windows 2000 :)

First of all, I need to announce that my website hasn't been working since yesterday because they're "checking it for malicious content". Theoretically it should have taken 2-4 hours but it's been like that for one day and isn't working at the moment still. The problem happened as soon as I uploaded a new version of the website yesterday. UURollup-v10d has just been released. It doesn't add any new functionalities except for Application Compatibility Launcher (no need to edit the registry manually when installing and running applications which require at least Windows XP) and several bug fixes. You'll be able to download it from http://www.windows2000.tk directly but as the site's not working now you can download it from the Archive (navigate to Windows2000->UnofficialUpdatesRollup->Stable).

As for Office 2007, BlackWingCat managed to do it a few years ago:

http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/ar ... .html#more (Japanese-only so use Google Translate if needed)

It's rather complicated and you should first try to install it in a virtual machine before trying to do it in your real system. I'm going to prepare a simpler way of installation sometime in the future but it requires time which I haven't got now. I myself use LibreOffice (supports Win2k officially) and also M$ Office 2003 and M$ Office 2010 live through SkyDrive when necessary.

The ReleaseActCTX errors happen when you've got "uxtheme.dll" in your "%windir%\system32" folder. Is it there? If yes, please remove it in safe mode. UURollup-v10(x) isn't compatible with uxtheme.dll. You need to install new weekly or daily releases of UURollup-v11 in order to be able to use uxtheme.dll directly from "%windir%\system32".

Thank for getting back to me. I think i will use Office 2003 for now....easier and it works fine.. Office 2007 would be more complicated.

I went into safe mode and uxtheme.dll was in my system32 folder but i could not delete it. It said "Windows is using this file" or something close to that. Any thoughts on getting rid of it? No big deal though...think i will try the newest v10d from the archives page.

I will keep trying to delete it...thanks for all the W2K improvements :)

You can use a Linux Live CD (ex. Parted Magic) to remove uxtheme.dll from your %windir%\system32 folder. This is what I use in such situations ;)

My website is now accessible at http://tomasz86.zxq.net and should be also available at http://www.windows2000.tk shortly. I've decided to change my hosting from http://www.000webhost.com to http://www.zymic.com (*.zxq.net).

By the way, installing UURollup-v10d should remove uxtheme.dll from %windir%\system32 automatically.

000webhosting did my head it - good choice moving.

I was about to suggest using a LiveCd, they work well for anything from password resetting to restoring the registry.

Hello, I need a little clarification, win2k sp4 with all the upgrades downloaded v10D uurollup tried installing firefox 17 and no joy. Running firefox 12. 17 extracts and then pops up xp 2 required. So can we update the step by step, I got a little confused with the original post instructions and reading that i do or dont have to do certain steps while reading along. for instance do i still need to save the registry update? it says save it as ".reg" what should be before the "." as in "whatnamehere.reg"

You can use Application Compatibility Launcher to easily install Firefox without messing around with the REG files :)

Please check the instructions on my website about how to use it (screen shots included). I need to update the first post and add info about Application Compatibility Launcher to it.

Eureka! success here is what I know
step 1 download uurollup and install
download firefox version of choice
download kdw verson of choice the latest at time of this posting is 97a
inside that zip file is a file called "bin"
inside the bin file is the uxtheme.dll you need. Place that file (just click and drag) into your mozilla firefox folder located in program files
run the application compatibility launcher under start>programs>accessories
once the black window opens click and drag the firefox file you downloaded above into that window. Installation will start automatically
whether you save or not is beyond my abilities, on his website link listed above you must click the "more info" links to see these instructions.

Firefox 17.0.1 running on win2k thank you.

One program that I like but now requires xp is auction sentry which now also requires .net 4.0 so that might be a worthy addition someday.

Now if we can do anything with playback quality with flashplayer in youtube vids etc even the smallest windows now suck up my entire 2ghz processor and it never use to. all would be well in the world.

Good that you've managed to install and make it running :) I'll try to make the instructions a little bit simpler when I've got some free time.

I've already prepared a combined version of .NET Framework installer (all versions of .NET from 1.0 to 4.0) but it's required to have a test version of UURollup-v11 installed before using it. If you're interested then here you can find weekly releases of UURollup and here is the .NET Framework installer. Just install the newest weekly release of UURollup-v11 and then run the .NET Framework installer.

I have finally got around to doing this today, stypidly missed step 9 though & had to uninstall firefox 18/install an earlier version so I could disable the hardware accelaration as I was just getting a black screen when firefox opened. Once that was disabled I reinstalled version 18 & firefox loaded fine.
The reason I have registered is what happened next, my pc refused point blank to connect to the internet either using firefox or other browsers couldn't check my email with thunderbird etc... Network connection said it was fine, IPconfig results looked fine, would ping to 127.0.0.1 fine, could access router fine using firefox, filesharing with laptop was fine, laptops wireless connection was accessing the net fine etc.. it was just the PC playing up.
After several hours of getting nowhere with the problem I had a look in admin tools/services & noticed that 'DNS Client' had changed to 'manual' start & was disabled so I enabled it & switched it back to auto start & the problem instantly resolved itself.
Thought I had better sign up & mention it here as although I have no idea why it happened it was rather disconcerting & the solution turned out to be so simple so if anyone else experiences connectivity issues after installing the Unofficial Updates Rollup and/or a new version of firefox they may be able to save lots of time by checking the dns service is actually running.
