Re: Mozilla's New Phone
The people who live in developing countries want an iphone or a Galaxy 4. They don't want a cheap knock of peace of crap that some goody two shoes think they should have. The moralistic saving the world shtick that is coming out of Mozilla is typical of the stupidity of self righteous people who live in fairy land.
What sort of man would put a known criminal in charge of a major branch of government? Apart from, say, the average voter.

Re: Mozilla's New Phone
Maybe if Mozilla was some champion of privacy, and was trying to reverse the trend of tracking instead of building it into the browser there would at least be some moral cause behind it.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Same self righteous idiots who think somehow they have the god given right to do what they want when they want and hang the rest of us because we should be grateful for the crumbs they throw us.

Re: Mozilla's New Phone
Seems like this is a replay of the computer giveaway from a few years ago. Every child having a computer.
They had that fairly well worked out with a hand crank recharging system, haven't seen anything in the press about that lately.
How about these phones, solar cell recharger to go with the phones might work but increase cost.
I'm only trying to look at the necessity versus the actual implementation and real need.
I doubt the third world countries , insensitively put, really want advertising detritus, pretentious values and formula movies?

OLPC at least had some educational utility in areas of zero infrastructure. The MozPhone is merely first world greed capitalizing on the only low hanging fruit left in the tree.

Someone should have a word with Mozilla about its latest ad campaign.

Another bit of Mozilla history: Asa moaning his head off when phoenix as it was then was getting any sort of preference over his beloved suite. You have to really watch a guy who has spent his life as a professional windsock... preferably from a distance and with a club in your hand

Re: Mozilla's New Phone
How on earth does he still have a 'job' there?
Either of those foot in mouth comments about using Bing, the competitor to their No.1 financier, and screw enterprise,"Enterprise has never been — and I'll argue, shouldn't be — a focus of ours", should have seen him kicked (hard) out of the door.
@ Do Mozilla have a Movie/TV product placement department, and if not why, when Sheldon Cooper, on the No.1 watched TV comedy in America, says he uses Firefox I imagine it carries some weight.

That's overstating things a bit. Apple, as always, is simply selling overpriced hardware and a certain misplaced feeling of
savoir-faire. Google simply doesn't care as long as you use services that get them paid for your free use of things that other folks pay them to provide and are willing to give the cell phone manufacturers and service providers a bit of the swag to help them . Mozilla has nothing to offer except free and a bit or earnestness. This isn't greed as much as it is flailing. They are playing follow the leader when that really isn't the purpose of either the foundation or the corp.
In another vain, can we have less images in this thread please?

Would some video footage from the 2013 Mozilla Summit be OK instead? I found the leading keynote 'How lucky are we?' speech of particular interest - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYS2LbRkFHI
