Sylpheed 3.3 auto log-out??

Post by adrianno »

Hi,
My name is Adriann, I am new here, and I hope this is the correct forum for my question.
if not , please tell me where to post.

I am a recent user of PuppyLinux slackware 5.6
It is a great program and am learning fast.
The problem I am having, is when I log into my mail server with Sylpheed 3.3, it does not remain logged in.
My log-in is accepted on pop3 than after a fraction of a second I get logged out automatically.
I tried it 5 times, always the same.
I know there is quite a bit mail in the box.

Have a look at the Sylpheed log below

* Connecting to POP3 server: mail.50webs.net...
[19:04:29] POP3< +OK POP3 ready
[19:04:29] POP3> USER adriann@my site.com
[19:04:30] POP3< +OK
[19:04:30] POP3> PASS ********
[19:04:31] POP3< +OK Logged in.
[19:04:31] POP3> STAT
[19:04:31] POP3< +OK 0 0
[19:04:31] POP3> QUIT
[19:04:32] POP3< +OK Logging out.

No doubt, I have a setting wrong , but where??
Many thanks for any help =D>

Is your Sylpheed 3.3 up to date, I see there is a 3.4.2 version available?
Have you assigned the proper ports for your webmail provider, some use 110 other use 589, see which one you have applied?
Are you using an automatic plug-in or manual input of password?\
Have you set the security too high for the webmail server?
Noticed in some cases the certificates might be out of date, you need to see if that is part of the issue as well.
Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you

Seems fine for when using POP3. The same happens for me using Claws-Mail, an offshoot of Sylpheed. All that a POP email client does is log onto the server, download the waiting emails, carry out any other tasks (like whether to delete messages on the server or not), then quit from the server. From what I see from your log, it's working as expected, in that it logged in, found no emails waiting, then logged out. I think you're expecting something like webmail when it's not that. So, nothing wrong with it, I'd say.

Many thanks to all replies. In windows Outlook 2007 , I did not tick the box "Keep a copy on the server". Once this was ticked I can access my mail either from Outlook or Sylpheed. and it stays there until I delete it.-->happy me :-"
