Is it your intention to leave Thunderbird on the computer but not have it as the default email client?

Have you tried simply setting Outlook as the default program?

Try to make the change over the Windows control panel --> default programs --> set programs and computer defaults.
mark: custom and expand with the down arrow.
move to choose a default e-mail program.
mark your default e-mail program and check mark all other enable access to this program.
you may have to restart windows [reboot].

See image below. NO default programs

I run in to the above situation often. I reveive instructions, follow them 2-3 times and the either the inst are wrong or my W7 is configed differently. I use the 'classic' view with the least junk & fluff, just business.

I did search the web about changing W7 default programs for both Outlook & TB.
Tb is just a little to difficult to get around in so I may bring back Outlook. I'm just spending too much time on the this forum. Email should be ubiquitous like a paper clip or a staple. Too much tech, not enough operational info.

cheers,

Moving to MozillaZine Tech because this is a Windows issue.

You might try reinstalling Outlook to force Windows to update the registry with a default program selection.

Don't get me wrong. According to the image that you refer to: second row, third from the left: What happen when you click on this icon?
Another way to find it: In the start menu go to search type: default then click on Default Programs and go from there.

I do not believe your control panel was disabled or partly disabled with something like this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16189/co ... d=noscript

For further info you may refer to this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... =windows-7 the 'mailto' association can also be changed from TB to any other mail client installed on the system.
