Group A are willing to take all of Microsoft’s new telemetry systems, along with potentially useful nonsecurity updates.

Group B doesn’t want any more snooping than absolutely necessary, and they don’t care about improvements like daylight saving time zone changes, but want to keep applying security patches.

I read this article and I guess I'm in Group B, but I don't understand...

Woody says I need to download the update from the Windows Update Catalog. What is the difference between using Windows Update to install the rollup and installing the update from the Windows Update Catalog? Isn't it the same thing? I read that individual patches will no longer be available.

I installed KB3188740 ..seems harmless.
Hid KB3185330 and KB3192403 (preview what!!?)
Successfully installed KB 3192391 from here.. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3192391 which is the 'security only' version of "Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 (KB3185330)" without the additional god knows what. Guess that puts me in group B....this month.
MS are real bastards deliberately not offering 'home users' the choice to install the Security Only version via updates.. At work on my PC I see Enterprise users are offered the choice to install either..

Yep.
I let it install the 1st two, .Net & Security Quality things & KB3192403 even though it was offered later as an "Optional."
I did hide a stack of other "optionals" though.

I'm definitely in Group B.

I think there is nothing bad in the non-security part of KB3185330.

Hmm....I reckon after the MS 'click on x means install 10' incident, non security "new quality improvements" could mean anything.
As for the '120.5 MB October, 2016 Preview !! of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3192403)'
Updates need an installed Update Preview ?.....surely this is some kind of bad joke.
No doubt November will bring new developments

What does it mean to uninstall a cumulative monthly rollup? The monthly rollup for October will include all updates for October. The monthly rollup for November will include all updates for October and November.

As an example, let’s say there are two brothers.

Wilbur installs the monthly rollup for October and the monthly rollup for November, then Wilbur uninstalls the monthly rollup for November. Is Wilbur still protected with the fixes released in October?

Orville installs the monthly rollup for November, but not for October, then Orville uninstalls the monthly rollup for November. Is Orville still protected with the fixes released in October?

I haven’t heard anything official about it.

Before patchocalypse, I used Windows Update to check for missing security updates. Now I use Belarc Advisor.

Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) says I need the latest monthly rollup, even though I have all the security only updates installed on my system. That's not helpful for Group B users.
