In Win 7 attachments (to e-mails in T bird) can be opened with any program, and can be made to default to that program.
In Win 10 , the same attachments can't be opened, at least there is no choice of "open with" . A list of "apps" come up, with no explanation of what they are for. The only attachment I an open properly is a text file.
For example, in Win 7, and xls file can be defaulted to open office , which works fine.
In win 10 I am advised to get MS Office, with no alternatives, but if I save the attachment, I can easily open it with open office.
How do I find the "open with" function in Win 10? Or was this one of Microsoft's improvements?

Re: Opening attachments
Moving to MozillaZine Tech as this is a Windows 10 issue and not a Thunderbird Support question.
If you are seeing a list of apps, shouldn't you be able to judge which one you need to select based on the file type of the attachment?

The name of an app with no explanation is not helpful.

And that's a Windows issue. You can search on-line for something like "What is xlsx" (or any other file name extension) to find a page like this one which tells you the default program associated with that file format.
