imdb messages

Post by rayFish »

I am not at all tech oriented, thunderbird is just installed on our system. So I am not going to word this up to par.

IMDb is going to delete all the message board posts for the past two decades.

It would be great if there was an app, maybe within thunderbird, to offline download messages from imdb, or at least your own posts. Like you can from email hosts with thunderbird.

I hope somebody is working on this or knows a handy way within thunderbird.

A lot of people are interested in this, but so little time.

Well, so Thunderbird is primarily an e-mail and news client whereas you are talking about messages posted on a website's board, which in general are two completely different things. However, if those messages are mirrored, lets say, in a newsgroup, you could use Thunderbird to download those news messages. There are some other protocols like RSS and chat supported by Thunderbird, but I don't know if IMDb supports any of those.

I'm moving this to Mozilla Tech, given that it seems to be more a general issue than something specifically related to Thunderbird.

Imdb isn't just deleting two decades worth of messages, it's shutting down the boards completely: https://tech.slashdot.org/story/17/02/0 ... r-16-years

You could try using the "Save Page As" option on the File menu to save relevant pages you want to keep.

Other than that though, the WaybackMachine might be of some use to you: https://web.archive.org/web/20160601000 ... //imdb.com

https://superuser.com/questions/1177068 ... oard-pages might be useful the next time something like that happens.
