I've noticed that last couple days that Defender has been updating every 4 hrs... anyone have any insight why they started doing that ? Its usually 1 or 2 a day...
it is Microsoft after all, there's probably more Viruses out there than we know of ( New Ones )
I better turn my Win10 laptop, which I rarely use, on everyday and let the battery drain keeping it up to date. Then run up the electric bill charging the battery. Do you get notifications after every update? I don't recall ever seeing one. Linux Desktop - AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 455 3.3GHz | 8.0GB RAM | GeForce GT 630
Windows Notebook - AMD A8 7410 2.2GHz | 6.0GB RAM | AMD Radeon R5
No, no notifications - I just watch - System & Security - Security & Maintenance ->Maintainance - View Reliability history - you have manually refresh the page as it does not always show immediate updates. Seems complicated - but once you do it a could times its easy. I just use the Windows Key -> Search Security & Maintenance
Have you checked both Defender and Windows Update settings? Microsoft pushes Defender updates through both the Defender app and Windows Update. Microsoft does have the ability to override your update settings on certain occasions (just something to note like if you're hanging onto a soon-to-be EOL'd version of something).
