Trend Micro Antivirus plus Anti Spyware

Post by brinke »

Got Trend Micro with my Nov 2007 HP PC purchase. It also came with Webroot Anti Spyware. Do I still need Webroot?

You might keep Webroot for doing ondemand scanning, but I wouldnt use its realtime protection.

I don't like SpySweeper very much. It is a hog if you run it at boot and I've seen way too many false positives with it. You would do better with SuperAntiSpyware.

When it comes to SpyWare, I always suggest using more than one scanner. No one product can identify/remove all SpyWare. So, depending on the products, they can cover for each others weaknesses.
There have always been ghosts in the machine... random segments of code that have grouped together to form unexpected protocols. Unanticipated, these free radicals engender questions of free will, creativity, and even the nature of what we might call the soul...

Its not necessary. Trend Micro should be enough.

so...the scheduled scans for TM that I have; Windows System Folder Scan.....Hard Disc Scan...and Full Scan....that checks for viruses and spyware/malware? I have it set to go once per week. Is that sufficient?

thanks for the feedback. so you think SpySweeper is superfluous and unneeded. should i go grab a freebie program like ad-aware?

I dont think its superfluous; I just think realtime adware/spyware protection is not crucial. Occassion scans are enough.

You can run more than one anti-spy ware application I chose Malware Bytes and Super Anti-Spy ware.
Never use more than one Anti-Virus application you will have a sick computer. Avira is the best for a free Anti-Virus, I'm beta testing their new build V9 which is a suite it reads Firewall, Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware. I'm a month into the test and haven't had any sign of bugs, not even a cookie. =D>
