FF53 can't drag url to bookmarks bar

Post by Dickva »

Just installed FF53 on a new win10 desktop. FF won't let me drag a url from the location bar to the Bookmarks toolbar - I get the 'not allowed' symbol. The bookmarks side bar shows various sites under the bookmarks toolbar heading. None of these appear in the bookmarks toolbar under the location bar and I also can't drag anything from the sidebar to the toolbar. Works fine on my win7 desktop
Any ideas?

Can you at least create a new bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar via the right-click context menu?
Can you drag the tab to the Bookmarks Toolbar?

Did you try Safe Mode?

What happens if you drag the URL to the desktop and then drag it from there to the bookmarks toolbar? Does that work?

I am posting here with an older version of Firefox so ignore the UA string for this posting.

It works fine for me in my Firefox 53 installation & Profile. I can still drag the active tab or the URL into the Bookmarks Toolbar, to the Bookmarks Sidebar, and even into the Bookmarks drop-down menu (the Clipboard button that is attached to the Star button; just drag there and the drop-down will open to allow you to save a new bookmark there).

Have you tried dragging the active tab, rather than the URL?

My guess is that you have an extension that is preventing "drag'n'drop" from working properly.

.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Mine has wandered off and I'm out looking for it.

You can also try to hold down the Ctrl key while dragging to see if that works.
Note that you can drag a link on either star or "Show your bookmarks" to open the drop-down list.
