TAB crash - very unstable

Post by sargan »

I had been having problems with FF very slow to start up (x3 longer than chrome or IE)
On advice tried refresh - no difference.
It was suggested I upgrade to ver 55

so running 55.0.3 on W10

Noticed getting several "Tab crashed" errors and would have to restore the TAB - never seen these before.
I did a clean install .........
Now loading fast enough ... but since clean install have had "Firefox has stopped working" twice and at least half a dozen "Ahh your Tab just Crashed"

In fact trying to use FB is now a real pain on Firefox, as soon as you start scrolling in a minute or so I get "Ahh your Tab just Crashed"
tried same sites on Chrome - no problem.

Does the same thing occur if you launch the application in Mozilla Safe Mode? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

Maybe try to use the Profile Manager or the about:profiles page to create a clean new test profile.

What security software do you have?

Make sure you give Firefox full unrestricted access to internet.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support to see if that has effect.

OK ... update

I did a remove followed by a new install ..... the 'Tab crashed' issue has now gone.
But it is unstable ... multiple times today I have had the "Firefox has stopped working"
So unstable IU have had to switch to chrome for running my conferencing software - kept crashing during sessions.

Are there any logs that would help identify issue ?

Even seen when it has been on home page (Google) and just idle ... and after 10 mins it 'stopped working' when all it was doing was being idle - so not url dependant.

I did a remove followed by a new install ...
But did that removal include the old profile? Did the "new install" start with a new profile with no extensions installed?

No .. I followed the on-line guide of renaming Mozilla folder .. and reinstalling.
Could a profile actually cause this instability ?

I can do a remove of everything if necessary.

OK ... Today I did an uninstall .. and also deleted the profiles.

New install .... and already had 6 instances of "Firefox has stopped working" it is not site dependant as when it restarts it is on the same site and runs OK .. for maybe 15 20 mins.

Chrome & IE are not affected.

PC is running TREND micro office scan anti-virus and Malwarebytes Antiexploit

Are those both running simultaneously? It's better to run only one active anti-virus at one time.
After the reinstall, are you running with an unmodified installation or did you install extensions in the new profile?
Have you tried running in Windows Safe Mode with Networking, which will eliminate any interference from anti-virus software or the llike.

Can't turn off anti-virus do that they are standard company build on LapTop.

I will see if I can run in safe mode to test.

they are standard company build
so this would mean that is an enterprise device and you are not the admin?

I am admin .... but I am not going to remove company standard anti-virus

It failed every time I tried to use today ....

Also had instance of failing to start with error -

"Firefox closed unexpectedly while starting...". ...... and gave option to start in SFAE mode.

I did yet it still crashed 3 times just while trying to submit this update.

As no other programme affected .... is there a deeper 'remove' option ............ maybe registry clean or similar - something very unwell.
I will in parallel ask IT if I can remove one of the anti-virus packages

It cashed several more times before I gave up and switched to Chrome ..... It created a Crash data report and asked me to email it to Mozzilla so I have.

I can post details here if it will help.
It says "This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed."

The last 6 crashes have been here .... i.e:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... &t=3033449

It is even crashing on starting up so that would be:
https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl

There are now 2 crash reports gone in, they have presumably all the details
Does not seem option to add file .... I could paste test in here if it would assist.
