FF bookmarks used to include a "box" to enter a search key to quickly locate bookmarks for a subject. I click Bookmarks in Menu Bar and see a ton of bookmarks but no place to enter a search key. I GOOGLE and am told to use the main search bar but prefix with an * ... that would be great if it worked.
Bookmarks used to be helpful - not so much with recent releases.
Forum used to be useful but many responses seem to be advertisements.

There are many ways to search bookmarks, but one you may like is: press ctrl-B to open the bookmarks sidebar, and there is a search bookmarks field / box at the top of the left sidebar. Another method is ctrl-shift-B to open the library window and that has a search box in upper right. A third way is in the location bar / URL bar / main bar / awesomebar (all the same bar) type * followed by a space, and then a word in your bookmarks. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Location_Bar_search

Could you point out a couple of those so we can see if they should be removed?

type * followed by a space.

this doesn't work .. just ignores the asterisk (*) and makes the normal search.
I'll probably use one of the other methods. Thanks.

Ah, that's just the way the owner of the forums raises funds to maintain this forum. It's been that way for years so it's nothing new.

* keyword works for me in the bar. I have under options, privacy: When using the address bar, suggest and all three of the options - history, bookmarks, and open tabs. I also sometimes use non private browsing. If you have different settings for those options, or always use private browsing, perhaps there is a bug where the search does not work. Another possibility is that your places.sqlite file has become corrupt.

Thanks! I checked all those settings and tried a couple other settings. * XXX ... just isn't pulling up bookmarks in the search list. Guess I'll have to use CTRL variations.
