Oh, not again...
I installed FF from scratch when the major update took place that made 99% of the addons incompatible.
Every now and then I will have to do the same?

in case you use an outdated and vulnerable version like v56 - YES

otherwise -> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/

quantum is recommended a fresh profile!

You might not have to if you would at least test in Mozilla Safe Mode.

99% is an exaggeration, a big one.

Why don't you try safe mode as suggested before panicking. I have been using the same profile since FF Quantum was in alpha with no problems.

How do I restart in safe mode? Is it the same as 'restart with addons disabled'?
I did the latter and it didn't fix the problem.

Really? Three minutes to overwrite the current installation? Anyway, reinstalling will probably not be productive.
Or are you talking about replacing the existing profile?

You ask me? I have no idea, I wouldn't be here if I knew what's needed.

You said that it would be a great inconvenience, but I don't have any idea what it was you were referring to by that. So...?
