Can I make tabs a different colour from their background?

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere: I searched for "change tabs colour" and variations but didn't really find anything useful.

I'm using 59.0.2 under Windows 7. Is there a way of changing the colour of the tabs so that they don't match the colour of their background bar? I know that they darken slightly when hovered over, and of course the active tab does become clearly marked, but to my eyes, unhovered others don't look like separate entities at all: they appear just as a line of spaced words and some favicons with very faint less-than-full-height vertical lines in between.

I've tried the dark, light and default variants but none of them resolve this.

I've also looked at different themes but every one I've so far sampled still keeps the tabs and their background the same. If anyone knows of a theme or themes which do what I'm after, or if there's a different way of achieving it, I'd be grateful for the information. Many thanks.

See if Colorful Tabs is compatible with your FF version. You can choose your colors.

Someone on the Mozilla support site very kindly gave me some css code which makes the tabs beautifully clear and allows for changes to their colour. So many thanks to LoveMyFoxy and DanRaisch for your help here (which I shall still investigate) but my immediate problem is now solved.

So, are you saying that ColorfulTabs now works with the latest versions of FireFox Quantum? I, ask, because, I was using ColorfulTabs with FireFox Quantum, but, since it was a legacy, it didn't work, so, I'm now using FireFox 56.0.2 w/ ColorfulTabs 31.2.0, so, that many of the legacys will work. Can you explain. Thank you in advance!

So, I checked out the reviews as you stated, and ColorfulTabs still doesn't work like it used too, in previous Firefox versions. Still, just have to wait until it's fixed.

That's right, it sort of works but not really.
