(Minor annoyance) Unable to Access Discount Tire Co

Post by skuddle »

All I get is a blank page.
Tried disabling all my add-ons = blank page.
Went to Settings>Privacy and Security and selected Standard, then restarted FF = blank page.

This sometimes happens on a very few other sites too.

Any ideas?

I have Strict Protection and my signature Addons & I got it first try.
I use Edge or a Test Profile to Test such things. --- Vs Disable Addons --- Try FF Safe Mode (Help/ Troubleshoot Mode) OR another browser if it exists.
IF either works I only know to start with a 2nd Profile and build back one Addon at a time til it breaks to identify the culprit.

You ought to post your Problem -- Links -- when asking for help on a particular site..

Thank you for the link. I clicked it and it works!

I had been typing "discounttire.com" in the URL field and coming up with a blank. Odd, because when I searched the term "discount tire" the very first result was:

"Discount Tire: Tires, Wheels, Tire Repair & Tire Service
https://www.discounttire.com
Home of the best prices on tires, wheels, and our famous customer service. Get a 30% shorter average wait time when you buy & book online!"

Thanks again!

i had no trouble with the "discounttire.com" website.

https://www.discounttire.com/

costark gave some good advice, to try using a second, "clean" firefox-profile.

you can use firefox's "profile manager" to create a second, clean firefox-profile.

to run firefox's profile manager, go to start/run and, in the dialog-box there type "firefox.exe -p"

Blank Page for me, too, using above URL.
Troubleshoot Mode FAILS --- BUT TEST PROFILE Works.
So Disabling Addons OR even FF Safe Mode (Help/Troubleshoot Mode) may not always produce a Fix THAT a Test Profile Might.

Using Direct in URL is an OK solution for me.

Very strange indeed. I guess some folks have a problem with "discounttire.com" and some don't.

I can access "discounttire.com" if I use Internet Explorer. Guess that says something, but I don't know what...

I think I'll just leave well enough alone and label this problem a "minor annoyance".

I appreciate all your replies.

Click the 'padlock' in the URL/Address bar and click 'clear cookies and site data' - then see if that helps. Could be just a stale cookie.

The first URL shows me that I need to enable JavaScript. That's because I run NoScript. After enabling JavaScript, it immediately redirects to https://www.americastire.com/ + a store code. So maybe the blank page appears when that scripted redirect is blocked?

I too run NoScript. How do I enable Javascript?

(I might add that even if I disable NoScript I have the same problem symptom.)

about:config / javascript.enabled / True is default

If jscher2000 sees this -- You used -- HTTP -- Vs -- HTTPS -- for the most/ rest of us.
Does HTTPS make any difference for your attempts?

if you are going to use noscript, you need to know how to allow scripting for particular websites.

to do that, click the noscript icon in the toolbar. then, in the dropdown menu, for the URL that you want to allow scripting, click the button for either "trusted" or "temp trusted," to allow scripting for that particular URL.

using noscript might seem complicated at first but it really is not that difficult. look at the instructions that i posted, above. does that seem difficult?

I clicked the links in Mark's post. It is weird that http appears when I quoted it. ??

I get the same redirect with HTTPS.

Costark:

About:config / javascript.enabled is TRUE.

It doesn't make any difference on my system if I use HTTP or HTTPS. I get the same results.

Redwolfe_98:

All of the Per site permissions for "discounttire.com" items are marked as "Trusted".

(If you don't know how to allow a site in NoScript, you should not be using it.)

Left click the NoScript icon, click the icon to either Allow or Temporarily Allow discounttire.com (or whatever the particular site is we're talking about here [or whatever site you are running across that may need JavaScript permissions enabled for]).

The about:config (Firefox) preference is a global switch (outside of NoScript, & does need to be enabled for NoScript to provide any value).
