eBay search engine is missing

Post by pawn3d »

It's missing the eBay search engine and "Restore Default Search Engines" is greyed out and unclickable.
FireFox 1.4.0.2 on macOS 10.15.7
Another day, another FireFox problem... What happened?

I don't see it either.
(I guess eBay wasn't willing to pay Mozilla enough ;-).)

Hmm...

But in my case, Restore Default Search Engines was not grayed out, & clicking that then did add eBay in there.
(I don't know that I every made any changes there? Maybe I did?)

Maybe restart into Safe Mode & see if that makes any difference (with it being there, & also with Restore working)?

You might want to test opening a new, clean Profile & see if eBay does turn up in there?

Is it possible it varies among locales? This URL will list all the search extensions included in the code, but most of them are not configured for my locale (en-US):

resource:///chrome/browser/search-extensions/

I don't know whether eBay is included everywhere or in selected locales.

select one of the other search engines like "amazon" and click remove. this will activate the "restore default search engines" button and both amazon and the missing ebay should be restored.
How can ace be one and eleven? Huh?

Otherwise you can try to remove or rename search.json.mozlz4 in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to rebuild the search engines registry.

Firefox will create a fresh search.json.mozlz4 and hopefully restore eBay.

i opened the "URL" and it wrecked my firefox installation.

afterward, when i would try to "clear history," firefox would lock up.

Odd, I'd think.

In what way did it wreck it?

like i said, when i would run firefox's "clear history," or, rather, when i would try to run firefox's "clear history," firefox would "lock up," would "freeze."

i used task manager's "end task" to close firefox, but the problem repeated every time that i would run firefox's "clear history."

i uninstalled firefox, removing all firefox files and regkeys, and then reinstalled it, and set it back up to the way that i always have it, with all of the same browser-extensions and tweaks, and now i am no longer seeing the problem with firefox's locking up when i run "clear history."

Sounds like a coincidence.
