Well, on one is Kaspersky Internet Security and on the other a Symantec client (just AV). The one that is way worse is the Symantec one.

This is really starting to get on my last nerves;

I was on a site and clicked on a picture (NOT a porn site). Firefox locked up as did my whole computer. Nothing worked. Had to do a hard shutdown. Restarted. I shut off my firewall (ZA) and but left windows' firewall on. I left my AV on (Avast). I went back to the same page and clicked on the same pic. Firefox AND Windows hung. Had to do a hard shut down again.

This has been going on since the 3.0.7 upgrade. I even tried going back to the previous version. Same crap. It's getting to the point that i never know what site is going to lock this computer up.

Ok....

I ran FF in Safe Mode, viewed the same page that locked (hung the system) me up, clicked all 3 pics and by the 3rd pic, it froze my system up again.

I rebooted Windows and just now viewed that same link in Internet Explorer. Clicked all 3 pics. Nothing froze up.

So, it's not my extensions nor do i believe it's my system since IE had no troubles.

Do i have to do a complete uninstall of FF and reinstall? Maybe my profile got corrupted somewhere?

Just trying to whittle down the possible problems.

I posted as guest. I think Elwood and mikey and I have the same problem, that is, Firefox doesn't lock up on any particular site, but simply locks up after a period of time. It can then lock up IE if you switch to IE, but the reverse isnt true - IE wont lock up if you never open firefox. And so I think this is a firefox issue. Any more ideas on how to solve it?

Yes, this is exactly the situation in my case.

It's funny. I viewed that site in IE and nothing went wrong.

Anyway, i did a total uninstall of FF and reinstalled it. Of course, i use FEBE to back up important stuff so that things are as they were. But so far, i haven't had a lock up.

I'm assuming, so far, that this was a FF burp. But all the same, something wasn't right. And my version of the previous FF install wasn't that old. I reinstalled Windoze about 3 weeks ago.

Back to square one.

Same crap happening again.

I've done this in FF Safe Mode. Still locks.

Totally uninstall of FF. Reinstalled FF. Still locks.

Changed firewall program. Still locks.

Changed AV programs. Still locks.

And i'm talking a total lock up of the computer to where you have to do a hard shut down.

What in God's name is happening here? IE and Opera do not do this.

LP...(others) you stated that you uninstalled FF. After uninstalling in Control panel did you delete the balance of the C: directories left over. I've found there to be 3 left-overs that may contain stuff that a new install would not overwrite? And, I don't recall that you tried running FF with a new test profile with nothing (extensions, themes etc) installed in it. Have you tried that?

I did a complete uninstall. I use Revo to uninstall things. All traces of everything was gone.

No, i didn't run a test profile. The funny thing is that this happens about every 2nd day or so. Not something that happens every hour. That makes it hard to pin point.

Yeah, I know... computers are fun :vamp: . A new profile may/may not fix things though... they get screwed up some times and that seems to be the only way to resolve it.

I'm running Firefox 3.0.7 on Vista SP1. After 10 - 15 minutes the browser freezes immediately upon clicking on another web site within Firefox. Then I have to always restart, which is extra lengthy, in order to continue on Firefox, and then prepare for another freeze in 10 or so minutes. Even when I'm just on my desk top, my CPU usage meter jumps up and down and high percentage every once in awhile. When going to the task manager, I can't see anything really causing that effect. What should I do? I have already completely reinstalled Firefox and all the plugins making it up to date. I have an XP3 Windows machine and I have absolutely no trouble with my XP doing the same thing as my Vista lap top.

I talked to a computer guy here in town today. He's the one who installed a brand new motherboard and ram. Anyway, he told me to bring my rig in tomorrow (Wednesday) and he's thinking it might be a bad memory stick. Possibly a slot even.

Anyone think that might be the problem? He said different applications (like FF) use different parts of a memory stick than, for instance, IE or Opera.
