I have recently changed to Windows 7 RC, installed over VISTA. I am running Firefox 3.0.11. Now Firefox hangs quite frequently. If I close it by hand, it still runs in the background as the Task Manager shows. Even in the task manager it can then not be killed. If i kill it there, it disappears from the task manager, but starting a new firefox session even then does not work: If I click on firefox, all I see is the hourglass for a few seconds, then nothing. In the taskmanager Firefox has reappeared then, but it cannot be accesses. The only way out is to do a complete reboot of the computer. The same behaviour shows up with Shiretoko (3.5 pre). A similar behavior I also see with thunderbird. Under Vista there was no such problem.
What can be done about this quite unpleasant behavior: having to reboot the computer frequently is quite a nuisance.

Here's what could be a "master" problem solver doc.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox

And here are some more that may help...
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser_will_not_start_up

And, try this .... it could be a bad extension....
Don't check off boxes...
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode

Some of these latter docs. may be included in the standard diag. link.

Had the same problem, lots of sites make windows 7 hang using firefox. Finally found out the problem is in the windows firewall standard settings. Allowed firefox in the windows firewall and it never hung again!

Same problem here! Windows 7 Ultimate. I will have to delete Firefox if they don't fix it.

Did you actually read anything above or dig into any of the documents/links presented...or did you just decide to rant... the problem is not Firefox proper but something outside of it or a bad extension. If you want help try the stuff above and post back here with your findings.

I've been using FF for two years now and running currently on Win7 and I have zero hanging.

I've added Firefox to the firewall exceptions and I've also tried using the safe mode but still my firefox hangs, then freezes. I was going through the list of situations where FF would hang, but mine doesn't just hang when those situations happen. I could be opening a new tab, or just googling information and not not even clicking on links and it will hang. It would hang 5 mins into using it , etc.

For others: It it hangs/crashes you can try this

On FF itself you can view crash logs, in the location bar, type " about:crashes " and then go to " http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/products/Firefox " it will pull up suggestions on how to fix based on that particular problem. I tried that and sadly my particular problem doesn't register.... aka, no data on my problem has ever been brought up. I'm hoping I can figure out what's wrong cuz I really love using FF.

Thanks for all the help though

You might want to test your Firefox with a new profile to see if it has problems... use that new profile for a period of time "without" making any changes to it... see what happens then...

Also, do you use that Google Toolbar in your Firefox?... it seems that they didn't code it very well for Firefox and it causes many problems.
