Connection Refused
I have a solution for Norton Internet Security users.
Norton Internet Security 2003
Double -> click -> Norton Internet Security
Click -> Productivity Control
Click -> Configure -> Add -> type ->MozillaFirefox.com
click -> OK -> OK -> X
Iam convinced that any Firewall or Internet Security will have to be set
to let FireFox have access.
Then OPEN Firefox browser to see how succesful you were.
Worked for me.
Thanks for the boost, I Love My FireFox works, so good, I just love it.

What version of NIS are you using? My Norton Internet Security 2004 has no choice for "Productivity Control".
Go to Personal Firewall > Configure > Programs and make sure Firefox has internet access set to Automatic.

I was saying that...
When I begin using firefox everything is fine, after a while it says "connection refused" and I can't go anywhere even with IE and I must reboot to make internet work again.
If I use IE everything works fine.
Isn't it strange? And I'm using Tiny Personal firewall... Any suggestion?

I have the same problem on 3 machines.
Firefox works for a while, and then starts displaying a "connection was refused" message from any site. I've noted that after Firefox has started erroring out on every page, IE is also affected, though the problem will never occur if I simply use IE. I can still ping a DNS entry just fine from a command prompt.
All 3 machines run Norton Antivirus, none of them has ever had Zone Alarm or any other type of personal firewall installed, and all have the windows firewall disabled. All are Windows 2000 Pro machines.
The IPv6 setting change did not solve my problem.

still not working
i'm new to firefox... i installed 1.0 and imported my settings from IE. I've never had ZoneAlarm. My NIS subscription has run out so the program is no longer running. I got the "connection was refused" message immediately when I started Firefox... tried everything on here and still nothing... has this thread moved elsewhere?

Doesn't mean it isn't interfering. If you're not using it, why not uninstall it?
Get a good free firewall, there are several available.

I am having Firefox and Norton Firewall Problems.
I'm running OSX and was previously used to ZoneAlarm on a PC. Norton runs differently on Macs and you can't specify allowed connections for particular software.
I know it's between these two as Firefox runs ok when the Firewall is disabled. I think I've narrowed it down to port 80, websharing.
I've searched in Firefox/Norton/Apple help and Googled it and it's not got me anywhere.
I've tried all combinations of allow/deny that I can think of and specified the computer's IP address as allow.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
