Force Firefox to Load One Tab at a Time
Hi there.
I am currently using Firefox 3.0.2. Sometimes I do a research project and use Google. From there, I click on multiple links and they load as multiple tabs. The bad thing is that I have slow internet. I want to make Firefox load tabs one at a time, so that when the first one is done loading, I can read it while the others are loading. Sometimes I read a lot of text on a site, so there should be enough time for a second and third and so on tab to finish loading when I am done reading one page.
So... is there any option or extension in Firefox that can get the job done?

Hi,
You shouldn't. It's a very old version that contains many security vulnerabilities. You should open the Help menu and choose Check for Updates.
Someone else may have a better answer for you, but you can try tweaking the network.http.max-connections-per-server and network.http.max-connections preferences. See about:config to find out how.

My internet is not that slow; it just can't load a lot of images at once for multiple tabs - only one tab. It is still broadband; just the low end of it though. I tried fiddling with the network.http.max-connections to 1 to see if it could load a tab one at a time. It ended up disastrous.
Any other ideas?

Are you using Adblock Plus with Easylist? If not, it prevents many ads from loading and should improve page loading speed.

You can see in the article links I posted above that that preference has nothing to do with loading one tab at a time. You limited the maximum number of connections to one, which must have resulted in a speed slower than dial-up. If you haven't already done so, right-click the preference and choose Reset or double-click it and choose a more reasonable value, like half of the default.

Re: Force Firefox to Load One Tab at a Time
Sounds like he only wants to load one page at a time (the other "loading" pages go into a sort of loading "queue"), but opening multiple links loads each of them at the same time.
I don't think there's a way to do that, zemborg; the whole beauty of multi-threading is doing multiple things at once, in this case loading multiple pages at the same time, and turning that off would require almost total rewriting of Firefox's code... of course, that's just MHO and somebody else might know of something else.

Exactly.

Did that already. I even have the EasyPrivacy filter and blocked google-anayltics. It was awesome. My internet isn't that super slow; it's just like computerfreak summarized it as - I want to load in queue for tabs. Individually, they would load about 5 seconds for text only, but for 10 tabs at a time, it takes about 2 minutes. Loading in queue would be the ideal.
Perhapes there's another browser to do the job? Or maybe an extension or GreaseMonkey Script I haven't heard of?

If you've already prevented images from loading automatically with ImgLikeOpera, why are you still having problems with images slowing down page loading speed?

EasyPrivacy stopped blocking Google Analytics nearly five months ago. See the posts on the Adblock Plus forum and the EasyList forum.
To recap, I think the closest to what you want to accomplish is to use the aforementioned extensions and reduce the value of network.http.max-connections-per-server.

Re: Force Firefox to Load One Tab at a Time
You need to visit javascript forums to see if someone can help you with the javascript code and put it in the form of a bookmarklet for you. This would be a simple code job for someone who knows javascript or jquery. All they have to do is write code that, gets selected links; copies them to the clipboard (line by line); and then loads them into tabs, one by one, with a five second delay. I'm just learning javascript myself and will eventually code a bookmarklet to do this very thing, as occassionally I run into this problem also.
